In an era where content creation often prioritizes speed over substance, filmmaker Ahmad Carson is taking a more deliberate approach. What began as a passion for building and creating has evolved into a focused career in visual storytelling. Influenced early on by YouTube collectives like Dormtainment and 4YE, as well as the example set by his sister—an actress and writer—Carson saw film as something accessible. That accessibility turned into ambition, and over time, his work behind the camera naturally expanded into directing, where he could shape not just the visuals, but the full narrative experience.

*This project is currently being funded through a crowdfunding campaign running until April 23, 2026. If the initial goal is not met, Carson plans to continue seeking support through additional channels. Updates and ways to contribute will be available on Kreviiimedia.com .

Carson describes his creative style as intentional and observational. He pays close attention to the small details people often overlook, and that perspective shows up consistently in his work. Much of his storytelling centers on introspection, a theme he has explored deeply through projects like The Introspective Series. Rather than relying on overt dialogue or heavy exposition, his work leans into subtlety—inviting viewers to sit with moments and draw their own conclusions.

His upcoming short film, Self-Care Sunday, reflects that same approach but pushes it into more emotionally complex territory. Inspired largely by his own lived experiences, Carson began examining the idea of self-care beyond its typical presentation. What started as a simple concept—something he initially imagined as a short social media reel—grew into a larger story. He drew from personal habits, like driving alone to clear his mind, only to realize that avoidance doesn’t resolve internal struggles. That realization became the foundation for the film, and a psychological thriller became the most effective way to communicate that tension.

People show what they want you to see; the routines and aesthetics-but not the reality behind them.

The film challenges the curated version of self-care often portrayed online. Instead of focusing on aesthetics and routines, Carson explores what happens beneath the surface. He aims to show a more honest version—one that acknowledges that internal conflict doesn’t disappear just because it’s not visible. This perspective shapes how he approaches the film technically as well. Through the use of sound design, visual motifs, and controlled framing, he works to represent emotional tension without over-explaining it.

One of the main challenges in bringing Self-Care Sunday to life has been translating an internal experience into something visual. Rather than relying on direct explanation, Carson focuses on atmosphere and performance, allowing the audience to feel what the character is experiencing.

This approach extends to how he directs actors. Instead of giving rigid instructions, he provides context and space, encouraging actors to connect personally with the role so the performance feels natural and grounded.

Working out of Louisville has also shaped Carson’s process. As a smaller market, it requires a high level of self-motivation and resourcefulness. At the same time, it offers the opportunity to contribute to a growing creative community and build something meaningful from the ground up.

Ultimately, Carson hopes Self-Care Sunday encourages audiences to reflect on their relationship with themselves. Beyond what is presented outwardly, the film asks viewers to consider how they navigate their own internal struggles and whether their version of self-care is truly helping them confront those challenges.
