Some businesses are born from a business plan. Others are born from transformation.

For Jocelyn, founder of Bótany Athletics, the idea emerged from a season of uncertainty that ultimately became the beginning of something much bigger. And throughout that journey, Kaelin has been an important part of helping bring the vision to life.

At the time, Jocelyn had resigned from her career as a police officer, was in school, and was trying to figure out what her next chapter would look like. During one of the lowest seasons of her life mentally, Kaelin encouraged her to get out of the house and move. They signed up for a fitness class together, never realizing that one class would change the direction of Jocelyn’s life.

As Jocelyn became more immersed in fitness, she discovered that movement was transforming more than her body. It was rebuilding her confidence, shifting her mindset, and helping her find her way forward. But she and Kaelin also began noticing something: they were often the only minorities in the room.

That realization became the seed for Bótany.

What started as a personal transformation grew into a vision for something the fitness industry was missing. Jocelyn didn’t want to create just another fitness studio. She wanted to build a space where people could feel represented, welcomed, and empowered to grow—with Kaelin alongside her throughout the journey.

Even the name reflects that philosophy. Inspired by botany—the study of plants—Bótany draws from the beauty and diversity of a garden. Flowers come in different shapes, colors, and forms, yet together they create something beautiful. Jocelyn sees people the same way.

At Bótany, there is no single definition of what an athlete looks like. If you move your body, you’re an athlete.

While Pilates is an important part of the brand, Bótany is ultimately about more than a workout. Jocelyn believes movement can build confidence, discipline, clarity, and mental strength. The goal is for people to leave feeling not only physically stronger, but more capable in every area of their lives.

And community is at the heart of that experience.

If movement could help me rebuild my confidence and change my mindset, I knew it could do the same for someone else, especially those who didn't always see themselves represented in these spaces.

Now, as Jocelyn builds Bótany’s first permanent studio, that vision is becoming tangible. She wants the space to feel elevated and beautiful without ever feeling intimidating—a place where design, music, movement, and energy come together to create an experience unlike anything else.

But Bótany’s roots remain firmly planted in Louisville.

Jocelyn believes locally owned businesses have a responsibility to contribute to the communities that support them. For Bótany, that means partnering with local businesses, supporting local causes, creating experiences, and helping make wellness more accessible and inviting.

The goal isn’t simply to operate in Louisville.

It’s to be part of Louisville.

Five years from now, Jocelyn envisions Bótany as a movement that reaches far beyond the city—a brand where fitness, wellness, fashion, music, culture, and community intersect.
